Fishing pattern

The fishing pattern operated by Icelandic vessels falls into two categories.  Firstly there are vessels which land the bulk of the catch to the domestic market in Iceland for processing and ship only the remainder of the catch to the UK by container.  The second type of vessel exports the bulk of the catch to the UK and operates its fishing pattern around the container ships schedule.  The co-ordination between fishing vessel and the container ship is therefore subject to much variation with the potential for extra days added to the supply route if the container ship is not met on time.  Delays throughout the supply chain will impact upon quality by the time the product reaches the market in the UK.  Forward information, labelling and deployment of traceability technology regarding issues such as date of capture and landing time could benefit UK processors immensely.
