Icelandic container fish is generally shipped in 460 or 660 litre plastic tubs.  These tubs need to be clean and intact, and the catch has to be sorted and carefully arranged in order not to damage the fish.  It is very important to use the correct amount of ice to maintain the optimal temperature on the catch and it is imperative not to overfill the tubs with fish.  Clean, consistent handling will ensure that a good reputation is maintained for the vessel and will attract buyers on the market. This is especially important for buyers who do not have an opportunity to visit the auction hall and purchase the fish remotely, relying heavily on vessel reputation.
